If you have the desire to turn your passion for computers into a career, the IT and Computing Diploma offered by University Road is definitely a course you should consider.

The Level 4 modules and assignments of this course are equivalent to the first year of a University Degree and the Level 5 modules and assignments are equivalent to the second year of a University Degree.

Our online Level 4/5 IT and Computing Diploma course is a 240-credit course, it includes 10 modules and written assignments at each level. The course is designed to equip you with the skills you need to Top Up to a full Undergraduate Degree and go on to become an IT professional. While completing the course, students will have access to a variety of support services, including Tutor Support and Webinars, a Social Learning Forum, and additional materials to help in the completion of their Diploma course.

If you decide to top up to a full Undergraduate Degree through an accredited UK university, the costs are as follows. Please note, the below costs are for distance learning/online only. You have the option of finishing on campus; costs will vary depending on which university you wish to complete your final year.

BSc (Hons) Information Technology for Business, fee £9,000, duration 9 months

University of Central Lancashire (UCLan)

BSc (Hons) Business Computing and Information Systems top-up degree

BSc (Hons) Information Technology & Business Information Systems (top up)

To enroll in the Level 4 course, you must be at least 18 and have a full secondary education. Before enrolling on the Level 5 course, you must complete Level 4 or equivalent.


Paying for School

The program does not charge students for their educational instruction, course materials, or annual enrollment. It does charge modest fees for application and examination processing. The current fee schedule is as follows:

Application Fee - $100

The Application Fee is non-refundable and must be submitted by the applicant along with the application for admission. The Application Fee does not include any additional fees that may be required for third-party evaluation.


Students are required to pay an Assessment Fee of only $600 USD for Each Semester 

For enrollment, students must pay 2-semester assessment fees which is $1200 USD


The estimated total fees for the Undergraduate Diploma (Level 4 & 5) in IT & Computing are as follows: $2,400 for 4 Semester

 

Cancellation Policy

Students have the right to cancel their Enrollment Agreement at any time and are not charged any Assessment Fees during the first seven days of enrollment or prior to the first day of classes. A student’s notice of cancellation must be received by the University in writing via email to [email protected] Notice of cancellation is effective if it shows that the student no longer wishes to be bound by the Enrollment Agreement or to continue his or her attendance at the University. The notice of cancellation is effective five days after the time the University receives the notification of the cancellation. During this time, the student may notify the University that he or she no longer wishes to cancel his or her enrollment.

Refund Policy

Students who drop or withdraw from a course within the required deadline is not required to pay the Assessment Fee. 


The Application Fee is non-refundable except in instances when applicants withdraw their application for admission before an admissions decision is made. Applicants may write a formal request for a refund of the Application fee to their personal advisor. If approved, refunds will be available to the applicant within 30 days of the submission of the formal request and the refund will be issued using the same payment method used by the applicant to pay the fee. 

 

Students who remain in their course beyond the course withdrawal deadline are not eligible for a refund of the Assessment Fee. The Assessment fee is only refundable in instances where the University has canceled a student's course or if the student's work was not assessed at all during the course.

The ATHE Level 4/5 IT and Computing course is made up of 10 modules and 10 written assignments at each level. On completion of the modules, students will be given access to the assignments. The assignments are approximately 5,000-8,000 words each. Students are provided support on the modules and assignments via the ‘Tutor’ section of the learning platform.

Computer systems and software

This module will develop learners’ understanding of the integration of hardware and software components.

Computer programming

Learners will use different tools and techniques to design, implement and test programs, following the system life cycle.

Relational database systems

This unit will develop learners’ understanding of database systems and data analysis and modelling.

Software engineering

Leaners will gain an understanding of the need for Software Engineering and the different methods and techniques.

Systems analysis and design

This module provides an understanding of IS concepts and how they relate to organisation needs in respect of business processes and transformation of information.

E- Commerce applications

This module explores the role of e-commerce in the modern world and in particular the identification of aims and objectives within a business and the design issues arising from the definition of requirements.

Human computer interaction

This module will develop students understanding of principles and models of human computer interaction and evaluate existing HCI design and principles and use this to help them plan their own prototype multimedia user interface.

IT and society

This module examines the impact of technology on society and explores trends and changes created. It will examine management issues and potential conflicts in terms of security and data management.

Information systems project management

This module explores elements of project management key to successful development and implementation of specific IT projects.

Management information systems

This module focuses on understanding concepts of information systems and how they support business needs in terms of information processing and data processing.

 

Innovative technologies in computing

This module looks at innovative trends and disruptive advances taking place and examines the new generation of skills and knowledge that will be required to work successfully in the sector.

Computing research methods

This module will explore the knowledge and skills required to undertake research in this field and the qualitative and quantitative approaches required including use of literature and design of research proposals.

Software development methodologies

This module looks at the role of systems engineering in development of software and various models of data, software and processes using modelling approaches.

Managing a computing project

Learners will find out about different project management tools and techniques that can be used when managing a computing project.

Strategic management information systems

This module is concerned with developing an understanding of the strategic role of MIS within the organisation and how it impacts on the broader objectives and strategy of the business.

Ethical, legal and professional issues in IT

This module explores current issues in the IT sector and how these may impact on areas of security, confidentiality, privacy and the law.

Network Design

This module explores the principles of networks and network design and implementation and support of network systems.

Web based development

This module will explore the design, deployment and management of virtualization and explore its commercial and potential impact.

Cyber security

This module will enable an understanding of the importance of digital security to business, to understand industry standards of digital security and be able to recommend improvements in security.

Database design and development

Learners will extend their understanding of database design and development. They will research database management systems and will design and implement a complex database

 

Whilst studying this course students will develop their skills in programming, systems analysis and design, software development. Upon successful completion of the course, students can pursue a career in IT within the public or private sector.

Technology Requirements

To complete a degree program at University Road, students will need to have consistent access to a computer with a reliable internet connection. If students are working on a computer that is not their personal computer and are unable to save documents, it's important also to obtain an external drive. Because there are no mandatory video materials for University Road courses, this drive can be a simple USB drive. 

Most of the learning materials that students will be dealing with in their UR courses are compatible with Adobe PDF or Microsoft Office. Our learning platform, Moodle, can be accessed by the latest versions of IE, Safari, Opera, and Chrome, but we recommend that students use the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. Note also that although working through a mobile device is not recommended, it is an option. There is no need to purchase software to study at University Road. 

Note that whatever system students choose to use, all files shared with Course Instructors and classmates must be saved in either Microsoft-compatible formats or PDF format.
