Brief Profile

Prof. A. S. M. Woobaidullah is a distinguished geophysicist and academic with an extensive career in teaching, research, and leadership in geology and exploration geophysics. He holds a Ph.D. in Exploration Geophysics from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (formerly USSR) and completed his Postdoctoral research in Geophysics at the University of Vienna, Austria.

Currently, Prof. Woobaidullah serves as an Honorary Professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka. His career reflects a long-standing commitment to geoscience education, research excellence, and academic leadership at both national and international levels.

Research Areas

Dr. A. S. M. Woobaidullah's research focuses on exploration geophysics, hydrogeology, engineering geology, and environmental geophysics, with particular emphasis on groundwater exploration, seismic hazard assessment, and subsurface characterization. His work extensively investigates electrical resistivity, shallow seismic methods, geophysical well logging, and geotechnical surveys for groundwater management, infrastructure development, and natural resource exploration. He has conducted significant research on saltwater intrusion, coastal hydrogeology, environmental impact assessment (EIA), arsenic contamination, and climate change impacts on Bangladesh's coastal ecosystems. His recent research also includes sequence stratigraphy, hydrocarbon prospect evaluation, earthquake and seismic risk assessment, and ground subsidence analysis, contributing to sustainable resource management and disaster risk reduction in Bangladesh.
